New PL Season Fan Expectations: Arsenal

I’ve been an Arsenal fan all my life. I feel that my relationship with Arsenal has most times been a parasitic one and seldom times a symbiotic one. You start the season very hopeful, and towards the end of the season, you get your hopes dashed. An average Arsenal fan is very patient and can withstand lots of pressure. I must confess, being an Arsenal fan has its ups and downs. I’m a big fan of Arsene Wenger and his legacy at Arsenal. I love the club so much, I support the players to the best of my abilities.

The appointment of Mikel Arteta as head coach has brought a bit of fresh air at Arsenal. He has been a revelation at the club in such a short space of time. He came in and changed lots of things. He changed our pattern of play because we weren’t just playing well before then. We became harder to score against. Our defence improved slightly, and he also improved most of our players like Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and revelation of the previous season, Bukayo Saka. After beating COVID-19, he ensured that he added Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea to the list of foes that he conquered.

The month of August has been one of my best months as an Arsenal fan. In less than a month, we won both the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield. The FA Cup win against Chelsea was a surreal moment. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on fire. Two sublime goals from him were all was needed to win our 14th FA Cup, the highest in England. The FA Community Shield win against Liverpool was another exciting encounter. We had to win via a penalty shootout. Winning two trophies in less than a month is quite an incredible achievement.

Firstly, I’ll like the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is sorted out. Our captain needs to “sign that ting”. He needs to sign that contract. He’s been the one carrying Arsenal with his superb goals to game ratio. He’s definitely on his way to becoming a club legend. The signing of Willian came with mixed feelings but I’m optimistic that he’s going to do well at Arsenal. He’s going to get the support of Arteta, the players and the club at large. We desperately need to sign a quality centre back and a defensive midfielder or box to box midfielder. We’ve been linked with Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey. I believe that if these two guys are signed, coupled with having Dani Ceballos back and of course getting the future of Aubameyang sorted out, we will do really well.

We have not been in the UEFA champions league for three seasons and we won’t be playing in the next one. This has greatly affected our finances and ability to attract the best players. I definitely want Arsenal to get back in the champions league and compete for the best players again. The Champions League is the tournament for the biggest clubs in Europe of which Arsenal is one of them. We have a rich history and I believe we deserve to be there. So my expectation for Arsenal this season is to enter the top four or win the Europa League, another means of qualifying for the champions league.
I am really optimistic about this new season and I believe Arsenal will do incredibly well.
