Everything around the football club seems calm and it is not difficult to see why. For me, the Premier League Champions are still the team to beat. They probably will be the first team since Manchester United in 2009 to successfully defend their crown, but having beaten the second seems to the title with 19 points, accumulating a league high of 100 points in total last season, the centurions and Pep will likely put more of their focus on the UEFA champions league. This could slightly distract them from the league opening way for another consistent team to nick the title.
Nonetheless, I expect another season of swashbuckling football from them. The addition of Riyad Mahrez to that already scary attack, a well rested Leroy Sane who is ready to disrespect and embarrass full backs, Gabriel Jesus who will come back from a little criticism about his World Cup showing, Bernado Silva and David Silva will want to ensure they retain their Gold medals, Kevin De Bruyne will return with pride after helping Belgium to their best ever place finish in the world cup.
Those are the players I’ll be looking out for in the team this season.
Players that I think will have points to prove are:
Raheem Sterling – He’ll like to show that last season wasn’t a fluke and he should be respected more by the media. He was mightily impressive with 18 goals and 11 assists last year. Reaching those numbers again would be cool.
Benjamin Mendy – The world cup winner literally spent the whole season in the treatment room and couldn’t show us everything he’s all about as a football. I hope this year, he will be more than a social media influencer.
John Stones – After a near perfect world cup performance with England, the Barnsley born defender should be ready to really play for Pep in the dream partnership with Aymeric Laporte this season.
Predicted Finish : 1st
